Able Privacy Statement
This is a translation of the Dutch privacy statement. If the versions differ, the Dutch version prevails.
Able is a mobile fitness app by Media Knights. In this privacy statement we explain which personal data Able processes, why we do so, with whom data may be shared and which rights you have.
1. Who is responsible?
Media Knights is the controller for the processing of personal data within Able.
Media KnightsMiddelhovenweg 38
1502 ED Zaandam
The Netherlands
Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number: 65869680
Email: info@mediaknights.nl
This privacy statement applies to the Able app, its API and the services offered through Able.
2. Which data does Able process?
Account data
When you register an account, we process:
- your username
- your email address
- an encrypted derivative of your password
- your unique user number
- the date your account was created
- your language and app preferences
We do not store your password in readable form. The password is cryptographically hashed before it is stored.
You can also use Able as a guest. A random user number is created for a guest account. You do not need to provide a name or email address.
Profile and training data
To tailor workouts to your situation and progress, Able may process the following data:
- sex
- age group
- activity level
- chosen training goals and preferences
- rest and training preferences
- completed and abandoned workouts
- exercises, repetitions, duration and completion rate
- feedback on difficulty, length and recovery
- training level per category
- streaks, Coins, achievements and unlocked exercises
- routines you create
- settings for notifications, language and privacy
Able does not ask for your exact date of birth, weight, height, heart rate, location or medical records.
Pregnancy profile
If you choose to, you can indicate that you are pregnant and which trimester you are in. Able uses this information solely to filter exercises and compose safer workouts.
A pregnancy profile may be data concerning health and is therefore a special category of personal data. We only process it on the basis of your explicit consent. Filling it in is voluntary. You can withdraw this consent at any time by setting the pregnancy profile to ‘none’ in the settings. Able will then no longer use this information for future workouts.
Able does not give medical advice. The app does not replace a doctor, physiotherapist, midwife or other healthcare provider.
Social features
When you use the friends and challenge features, we may process:
- your username and public training profile
- searches for other users
- friend requests and friendships
- challenges and their results
- Coins you give to a friend
- limited progress statistics that you share with friends
Your email address is not shown to other users. Searching by email address only returns a result on an exact match.
Purchase data
When you make an in-app purchase, we may process:
- the platform on which the purchase was made
- the product purchased
- a receipt, transaction ID or similar verification code
- the status of the purchase and the time it was processed
Payment details such as your credit card number or bank account number are not received by Media Knights. Payment is handled by Apple or Google under their own terms and privacy policies.
Technical and security data
When the API and servers are used, technical data may be processed automatically, such as:
- IP address
- date and time of a request
- requested route and HTTP status
- device and app information
- error messages
- security and access logs
This data is used to keep Able available, secure and reliable and to investigate abuse, fraud and technical failures.
Analytics data
Able may process pseudonymous usage events, such as opening a screen, starting or completing a workout and using a feature. This data helps us fix bugs and improve the app.
Analytics events are linked to a technical user number. We do not use this data to sell health profiles or for third-party advertising.
Advertising data
Able uses Google AdMob to show ads. Depending on your consent, device settings and region, Google may process data such as:
- your device's advertising ID
- IP address and the approximate location that can be derived from it
- device type, operating system and app version
- ad impressions, interactions and diagnostic data
- consent and ad preferences
Google may use this data to deliver, secure, measure and, if you have consented, personalise ads.
Able uses the Google User Messaging Platform to ask for consent where required. If you do not consent to personalised ads, non-personalised or limited ads may still be shown. Technical data, including the IP address, may still be necessary for delivering and securing ads.
You can reopen your ad preferences via the privacy or ad settings in Able when Google indicates this option must be available.
More information about Google's processing can be found in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
3. Why do we process data?
We process personal data for the following purposes and on the following GDPR legal bases:
Performance of the contract
We process data needed to:
- create and manage your account
- generate workouts and sync progress
- keep track of Coins, streaks, achievements and unlocks
- make friends, challenges and routines available
- restore and verify purchases
- export data or delete an account
Consent
We ask for consent for:
- processing a pregnancy profile
- personalised ads and related advertising technologies where the law requires it
- notifications on your device
- tracking for which Apple, Google or applicable law requires separate consent
You can always withdraw your consent. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Legitimate interest
We have a legitimate interest in:
- keeping Able secure and reliable
- preventing and investigating abuse and fraud
- fixing bugs
- analysing and improving features
- protecting accounts, infrastructure and other users
We limit this processing to what is reasonably necessary and weigh our interests against your privacy interests.
Legal obligation
Some data may be processed or retained when necessary to comply with tax, administrative, legal or regulatory obligations.
4. Automated adjustment of workouts
Able uses your profile, preferences, training history and feedback to automatically adjust exercises and difficulty. This may constitute profiling within the meaning of the GDPR.
This adjustment relates solely to the composition of workouts. Able does not make decisions that have legal effects or similarly significantly affect you. You can change your training preferences and profile data yourself.
5. With whom do we share data?
We do not sell your personal data.
Data may be processed by service providers necessary for Able, including:
- bHosted.nl, for hosting the API and database in the Netherlands
- Google AdMob and Google User Messaging Platform, for ads, consent and ad measurement
- Apple App Store, when you use Able via Apple or make a purchase
- Google Play, when you use Able via Android or make a purchase
- technical suppliers we engage for security, distribution, monitoring or support
These parties process data under their own privacy terms or on behalf of Media Knights under appropriate agreements.
We may share data when required by law, necessary for legal proceedings or needed to protect the rights, safety and property of Media Knights, Able users or others.
6. Processing outside the European Economic Area
Some suppliers, including Google, Apple and their group companies, may process personal data outside the European Economic Area.
When personal data is transferred to a country without an adequate level of protection, we or our suppliers use a legally permitted transfer mechanism, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
7. How long do we keep data?
We do not keep personal data longer than necessary:
- account, profile and training data is kept for as long as your account exists
- guest account data is kept until the account is deleted or the data is no longer needed to provide the service
- daily database backups are kept for a maximum of fourteen days
- regular server logs are in principle kept for a maximum of fourteen days, unless longer retention is needed to investigate a failure, attack, fraud or legal dispute
- purchase and transaction data may be kept longer when needed to restore purchases, prevent duplicate use or meet legal obligations
- anonymised statistics that can no longer be traced to a person may be kept longer
When you delete your account, your account data and linked progress are deleted or irreversibly anonymised. Data may remain in secured backups for up to fourteen days. These backups are only used for recovery after a technical incident and are overwritten on the normal schedule.
8. Security
Media Knights takes appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data. These include:
- encrypted connections via HTTPS
- hashed passwords
- restricted server access using SSH keys
- firewall rules and limited network access
- separate storage of production secrets
- automatic security updates
- daily database backups
- access restrictions for server files and backups
- checks for unusual or invalid requests
No method of storage or transmission is completely without risk. In the event of a security incident, we act in accordance with applicable legal obligations.
9. Your privacy rights
Insofar as the GDPR provides, you have the right to:
- access your personal data
- have incorrect data corrected
- have personal data deleted
- have processing restricted
- object to processing based on legitimate interest
- withdraw your consent
- receive data in a portable format
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
In Able you can export your data, change profile data and delete your account. You can also send a request to info@mediaknights.nl.
We may ask for additional information to verify your identity. We will in principle respond within one month. Exercising your privacy rights is normally free of charge.
You can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
10. Children
Able is intended for people aged sixteen and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under sixteen.
If we discover that a child under sixteen has provided personal data without valid consent, we will delete this data as soon as possible. A parent or legal guardian can contact us about this via info@mediaknights.nl.
11. Data on your device
Able works partly offline. Training data, settings and an access token may be stored locally on your device. As soon as an internet connection is available, relevant data may be synchronised with the Able server.
You can remove local data by deleting your account in Able and removing the app from your device. Removing the app alone does not automatically delete a registered account on the server.
12. Changes
We may update this privacy statement when Able, our data processing or the law changes. The most recent version is published at:
https://ablecalisthenics.com/privacy/
We will inform users of important changes via the app or another appropriate method.
